Shot a doe tonight (nice, big fat doe). It ran off and I heard it crash pretty quick. I figures it had expired but the kids like to help and no harm in waiting right? So I went to my house (about a 100 yard walk) and had some dinner. We got out and started trailing it. Easy trail job. Got to the spot where she crashed and found a big poor of blood but no deer. Then there was a trail leading out of the spot. It looked like something was dragging. I figured the deer was trying to drag herself farther. Then about 20 yards later we found her. Dead by facing us. Bailey asked why she was aimed that way. Got up to her and her stomach fur was gone. One ear was gone, and the tail was gone. Looked like the yotes got to her. I was amazed that within 20 minutes they got to it. I expect that they were trying to drag her away while we were trailing her and dropped her when we got too close. Good thing it was a big one Told Bailey we are now looking for a buck. Doug |

Coyote fur makes a great jacket hood liner, or bomber cap! |

Doug,A few years ago I was field dressing a doe after waiting about 30 minutes after the shot. While my son and I were dressing out this doe we were talking in a normal voice and I started hearing something walking in the leaves. They kept staying around so I stopped and looked around with my light and saw two coyotes. I'm sure as soon as we left they were on the gut pile. I was amazed they were so bold. ------------------ Blevins Gap Outdoors [This message has been edited by Blevins Gap Outdoors.. (edited October 14, 2009).] |

Usually the coyotes are pretty timid around here. We hear them alot but have never seen them this close to the house. Doug |

Doug, Talking of coyotes- I got home tonight from my first hunt this year at IH (five weeks late in getting the CO to sign the hunt instruction). This morning at Rum Point, Andy Pederson had 4 come in about 7:30 AM. He dropped 2, winged a third. Apparently this is the first time Coyotes have been seen on base. BTW- got my doe- now I am eligible for a trophy buck, if I'm lucky enough to get a shot at one. New rules- if you get 3 does, you an take any buck. |

My friend took a shot at a couple of wolves the other day. Never seen them around here before in our agricultural land. More moose too. The blamed wolves have the run of the north and deer populations are way down. |
