Here's my buck from last weekend... Story below:

WOW!!! What a hunt!... I decided since we had a North wind that I would hunt a stand that can't be hunted with any other wind... it is in a small draw that comes out of our 20 acre pine woods on my dad's farm...

I got to my parents at around 3:00, watched a little tv with my mom and then headed out. I crawled into the stand at about 3;30... the stand is an old rickety ole' man ladder stand with a 4' hunters view extension on it... I know, real safe... Well I had to trim a few limbs that I hadn't noticed in the summer, so I got that all done and was ready to sit... to my left I felt really exposed as there were no limbs, and any shot I got would only be around 15 yards... On the ole' man stand there is a pocket to slide a gun rest into, so I chopped another limb off and stuck it into this pocket, this covered me pretty well, so finally I was settled in...

about half an hour went by, when I heard corn just busting and crashing... I looked straight up the long waterway that separates the fields and saw him coming full speed... I grabbed my bow and got ready... at about 80 yards he came to a stop... then began milling around... he then started my way, but he was on the other side of this large waterway, and the path he was taking was only going to give me about a 45 yard shot... I started ranging different positions that I thought he'd come to... at this point he began walking right towards me, and right into the path of the limb I had just shoved into the stand for cover... I thought "crap he's going to be right behind that and I won't be able to shoot"... About this time he walked behind a patch of briars, so I grabbed the limb and pulled it out... about 5 sceonds later he preceded on towards me... closing the distance I was still unsure exactly where he was goiong to go... at this point he is about 15 yards and coming right at me... for whatever reason he stopped and looked back... I drew my bow, he then turned broadside, so I laid the pin on his chest and let her fly...

He lunged forward and fell over... I grabbed another arrow ( I always keep a loose one for this reason), nocked the arrow... he then stood up... and loooked around as if trying to figure out what happened... I qucikly settled the pin on him again, this time ensuring he was dead...

Anyways... I am pumped... I'm going to weigh him when I get home, but I'm guessing he's easily over 200 dressed... this guy is huge!!!!

Well Adam I see you took care of it yourself. Sorry it took me so long. I started to do it this AM and I thought..."I wonder?"....and sure enough...you did.

    Glad you re-registered anyway!

That's a really excellent buck. Really tall brow tines.

Way to not get "spooked" and blow the shot!
