    Hello!!

Not much time to do anything anymore...including hunting. Did kill a doe last week....(first deer with a bow in since '07).....but really haven't missed it much.

Lost a little of my enthusiasm for deer hunting when I lost the ground (160 plus acres) this summer I had hunted for the last 10 years. Family broke up and split up....and split the farm.

Got a few small places to go...but have pretty much lost the drive. Too much else going on.

    I get out when I can...but don't fret when I can't.

Will go to Kansas the last week of November....catch about 3 days of bow....3 days of gun.

I know why old men take up golf now. Easier to find a place to go.

Hope everyone has a good time!

I'm feeling the same way Danny,I have been out around three or four times this year and I think for once in my deer hunting career ,I'm not fretting or feeling the dire urgency of getting tags filled.I don't have many places at all just a family spot down state and a couple small lots around here.I don't know if I'll go fishing or hunting tommorow, there was a time where the answer to that question(this time of year)was a no brainer.Congrats on the doe Danny ,that what I'm aiming for right now I getting low on venison.

Yeah Bill...when I do get out I seem to just enjoy being out more than I used to. The urgency of "filling a tag" is gone!

Probably has something to do with getting older.

I am going out turkey hunting with my bow in the AM. Got a field where some hens are hanging out and they are legal game this time of year.

Hope you get that meat Bill!

I'm under 50 and feeling alot of the same things! Land up here is getting squeezed for hunters too.

Last Friday I took a doe with the ML and put her in the freezer on Thursday -- any pressure is off. I actually prefer a nice doe now because I don't have to hack off the antlers and put another set on the pile!

Yesterday was no wind, and a beautiful 44F so I went out stalking mules. Heard a noise that sounded like a spar. So I made haste for about 400 yards then stopped and looked around. Saw 3 decent bucks on the ridge of the river valley at about 300 yards, but had to go around about 3/4 mile to get a quiet approach. Got within 40 yards of them, but too many eyes and ears this time. I appreciated the beauty out there, geese flying low overhead, fall colours, etc.

I've kind of hit that...not as pressed to hunt the wind and rain when it's warmer. That will change in a week when November gets here and the rut is on.

I'm saving my good will at home for next week. Things should be heating up soon up here.

PS. Sounds like its time for a road trip. Up north for bear or caribou.....

Man, tell me it isn't so? Grumpy old men's club? First Davidmill says he has lost the fire..now you guys are dropping like flies. All my rowdy friends have rowdied on down? I have not lost the fire. I love it. This year has completely sucked weather wise and time wise. I have been only 1 afternood since Sept. 12th. Kids, rain and a little surgery have slowed my season. But I am about to make up for lost time. There is a nip in the air, my neck is swelling, and things are about to turn around.
You guys get out an kill something!!

Alright then Kevin,If I have to guess I'll go out tommrow and kill something,I suppose I just ain't rutted up yet Maybe one of the things going on here is they haven't taken out the corn yet(crops planted late this year cause of all the rain)anyway it's hard to get exited and just tougher hunting arund here when the corn is up,also it's hard to tell how the rut is prgressing.Good stuff Clarence sounds like a beautifull place you live.Danny youre definately the turkey slayer, good luck tommorow,Charlie your probably right maybe when the rut gets going around here my attitude might change. One f my hunting buddies told me that tonight while out hunting he had a decent buck jump a couple does tonight and chase them around. It's getting close!

You know, when I read posts like Danny's it makes me appreciate where I live. I don't have to look for a place to hunt. The last two years I have taken deer within sight of my house on public land. We have tons of public land around here with an ample supply of game. I do feel for folks who have to look for or lease a place to hunt. I suppose that is the way our hobby is headed though.

You know tloyd.....I'm sure I could find other places to hunt....and have.

But the thing that got me down...and still has me down....is I basically raised two boys up on that property. There is hardly a place on that 160 that doesn't have a story.

Whelp....I just got to deal whif it!

Nope Kevin, just been traveling for work it just takes it out of you. Don't think I'll ever loose that drive to hunt...at least I hope not.

Lost the drive myself. I went bow hunting twice in our short bow season. Passed a couple deer because I didn't want to have to mess with the dragging and gutting. Been fly fishing a lot. Our gun season came in 2 Saturdays ago and I went to fish camp for a week of Steelhead and brown fishing. LOL Go figure.

I may getting old but still can't stand not getting in a tree. After five back surgeries and turning 58 I'm still after them as much as I can. Just can't hunt as long as I use to but still love it...

I fell out of my bass boat onto the parking lot (I know....?how'd he do that?) and in the course of trying to catch/right myself I hurt my right knee really bad. I was on crutches for 2 months and am able to get around by being careful. I also love to hunt out of a tree and had decided if I couldn't use the climber I wouldn't hunt this fall. Fortunately I was able to and had a good muzzle-loading season. I usually don't get serious with my bow until Christmas but I am so glad that right now it appears that I'll be healthy enough to go. Getting older isn't fun.....but it's much better than the alternative.
